After a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the famous Tetbury Woolsack Races made a triumphant return this week! Participants hoisted woolsacks onto their backs and raced up and down the steepest street in town, and ThirdMedia was proud to be an official race sponsor.
We specialise in Web3 marketing that is about building communities online. Although this event was not online, it took place in Tetbury, where our founder David Jackson is based. The community spirit shown at the Tetbury Woolsack Races is a reminder of the power of community, and that's why sponsoring the event was an easy decision for us.
The Tetbury Woolsack Races are an annual event held in the picturesque town of Tetbury in the Cotswolds. Competitors race carrying heavy woolsacks on their backs. Men race with a 60-pound (27 kg) woolsack, women with a 30-pound (14 kg) sack. There are also youth races for boys aged 16-18 with 30-pound sacks, and a children's class where the sacks are lighter, similar to the weight of a pillow.
Thousands of spectators attended this year's event, and the feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
Andrea Holliday shared her excitement on social media: "So happy to see the Woolsack Races again in Tetbury. Many thanks to the organisers who did a great job setting everything up (and for clearing up afterwards!)."
Andrew Bartlett also praised the event: "Fantastic job done at the Tetbury Woolsack Races 2024. Well done to the committee, volunteers, sponsors, and of course everyone who turned up and made a positive contribution!"
Tetbury has become a bit of a celebrity hotspot in the Cotswolds, with recent visits from Courtney Cox, Liam Gallagher, and David Beckham. This year's Woolsack Races even saw the Mitchells from EastEnders, with stars Danielle Harold (Lola) and Max Bowden (Ben) in attendance.
Overall, the return of the Tetbury Woolsack Races was a fantastic event for the community, and we at ThirdMedia are already looking forward to supporting next year's race. Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who participated and supported this cherished tradition!
